USA -- Magnesium Catches Fire At Industrial Facility In North Aurora

Some magnesium caught fire inside the industrial facility at 800 Airport Rd. in North Aurora, just off Randall Road near the Reagan Memorial Tollway.

Magnesium burns extremely hot, and is often used in road flares. When it catches fire, it cannot be extinguished with water or an explosion may result.

Employees were evacuated from the Aurora Pump Company in North Aurora early Friday when metals caught fire inside.

The fire was burning in the interior shop area, and the approximately 40 employees who were in the building at the time were hustled out. No injuries were reported, but ambulances were sent to the scene.

The Aurora Pump Company manufactures various kinds of pumps, among them sewer, sump, fire and turbine pumps.
