D-Tec
is finalist in Security Excellence Awards
D-Tec - part of AD Group - is a finalist in the International
Achievement category of the influential Security
Excellence Awards 2007. The company is a
worldwide leader in CCTV camera-based Video
Smoke Detection (VSD),
which analyses images to provide early warning
of fire, whether accidental or deliberate
(arson).
The shortlisting of D-Tec reflects its strong global business performance - with sales
outside the UK expected to account for more than
83 per cent of turnover for the current
financial year 2006/2007 - and the potential for
its NetVu Connected fire detection technology,
in particular its latest FireVu IP based system,
to be readily integrated with a customer’s
security infrastructure.
D-Tec’s advanced camera-based fire detection systems can be found
on the front line of fire protection for a wide
range of prestigious applications, whether it be
the Sydney Harbour Tunnel in Australia; the
Royal Airwing Hangar complex at the Dubai
International Airport - the world’s largest
privately-owned aircraft hangar or the landmark
‘gherkin’ office building in London.
Said Ian Moore, Managing Director at D-Tec: “We are extremely
pleased to be considered for such a prestigious
award - our export sales have been phenomenal
during 2006/2007 and we expect this growth to
continue as we enter new markets and expand our
FireVu customer base. In addition, with D-Tec
Analytics we are
taking our long-term expertise in image
processing and expanding this into new security
related packages including: Object Left, Object
Removed, People Counting, Perimeter Protection
and ANPR which are compatible with a range of
systems from other AD Group companies such as
Dedicated Micros.”
The Security Excellence Awards ceremony is being held at the Hilton
Hotel, Park Lane, London on 10 October in front
of hundreds of security professionals.

About D-Tec
D-Tec – part of AD Group - is acknowledged as
the pioneer and world leader in intelligent
video through its Video Smoke Detection (VSD),
receiving the Queen’s Award for Innovation in
2003. D-Tec’s VSD and its FireVu IP based system
– which allows 24-hour remote monitoring of
incidents - have been developed to overcome many
of the problems associated with smoke detection.
VSD provides solutions for previously unsolvable
fire detection scenarios, working externally as
well as internally and represents a true
technological breakthrough in fire prevention.
The early detection of smoke whether it be in
lofty, voluminous areas; where high airflows are
present or even in external locations has always
posed a problem to fire safety professionals.
Practically, it is just not possible to place
detectors close enough to the area of risk to
provide an effective level of fire detection. In
a large voluminous area such as an aircraft
hangar or railway station there is a high
reliance on the smoke overcoming distance,
stratification and temperature layering before
being detected. By effectively detecting smoke
at source, VSD does not rely on the proximity of
smoke to a detector and therefore is unaffected
by distance. Whether the camera is situated 10
metres or 100 metres from a risk area, VSD will
detect smoke in the same amount of time. More
