Malaysia’s Petronas Chemicals says two killed by ammonia leak at plant
An ammonia leak at a Petronas plant in Sipitang in the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah killed two workers and injured three others. The incident happened at Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd and the leak was contained soon after, the company said in a statement.
The incident posed no immediate threat to the surrounding communities or environment the company said.
“Five PCFSSB contractors were affected. The company, however, regrets to inform that two fatalities have been reported. The other three affected personnel have received appropriate medical treatment,” the statement said.
PCFSSB is extending all necessary assistance to the affected personnel and their family members. Authorities are investigating cause of the leak.
