Pakistan – Five Killed In Kashmir Coal Mine Explosion

Pakistan – Five Killed In Kashmir Coal Mine Explosion

A coal mine in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has suffered a fatal explosion on August 6 with five miners reported to have been killed. The Deputy Commissioner of Muzaffarabad, 20 miles south of the mine site near Seri Darra village, said seven miners were digging coal about 800 feet deep in a shaft when a gas explosion caused the roof to collapse.

Two of the miners escaped and raised the alarm, the official said, adding that the bodies of the fatalities had been recovered the following day.

A murder case has been registered against the leaseholder and contractor for failing to observe safety standards. The mine has been closed until further notice.

Kashmir is divided between Pakistan and India and claimed it in its entirety by both countries.
