PSA investigating work accident on Kårstø
A work accident occurred on Thursday, 30 May, 2013 at Naturkraft’s facility on Kårstø. Two persons were exposed to ammonia in connection with maintenance work on an ammonia tank valve. The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has decided to investigate the incident.
One of the persons was reported to have been sprayed with ammonia, while both were exposed to ammonia vapours. They were both sent to Haugesund hospital.
The purpose of the PSA’s investigation is to determine the scope and course of the incident, and to map and evaluate safety and emergency-related aspects of the incident.
The investigation will result in a report, which will be published on psa.no.
Naturkraft is the operator of the facility. The company has initiated its own investigation of the incident, assisted by Statoil on Kårstø.
