Russia – 3 Dead After Mine Explosion In Ural Mountains
Three people have been killed in an explosion at a mine in the Ural Mountains, in a blast that investigators believe was caused by an accidental detonation of mining explosives.
Two other miners were hospitalized with injuries following the explosion at the Yuzhnaya mine this weekend, the TASS news agency reported Sunday.
A total of 94 people were inside the mine when the explosion went off, 89 of whom made it to the surface alive, the report said.
The bodies of the three dead miners have been recovered, a spokesman for the regional Interior Ministry was quoted as saying.
The blast appears to have been caused by an accidental detonation of 12 kilograms of mining explosives, a local Investigative Committee spokesman was cited as saying by TASS.
