Petrol Tanker Explosion Kills 10 In Southern Mexico
A crash involving a tanker transporting petrol on the road between Villahermosa and Coatzacoalcos in Tabasco province, southeastern Mexico, killed at least ten and injured at least 20, according to local sources.
Some of the dead and injured were children. The tanker was owned by the Salma group.
The Civil Defense agency said in a statement that the 60,000 litre tanker crashed and spilled fuel onto the road. Area residents ignored the authorities’ warnings to stay away and instead tried to take fuel from the damaged tanker, suffering serious burns when it exploded.
