Nigeria – Oil Tanker Explosion Kills 6
A oil tanker accident yesterday resulted in the death of six people in Zuru local government area of Kebbi State.
The accident also resulted in the destruction of six households as well as some vehicles parked close to the house of the local government chairman.
An eye witness, Elyakubu Usman Dabai of DW Radio told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the driver of the tanker lost control while on his way to Mahuta from Zuru town on the steep road.
“ The tanker loaded with petrol on its way to Mahuta from Zuru going down the steep road suddenly lost control, fell and exploded killing six people and also about six households were affected”, he said.
Dabai further explained that the incident occurred between 5 and 6 am on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the state deputy governor, Alhaji Samaila Dabai, on hearing the accident rushed to the scene to commiserate with the victims. Reports indicated that six people are also currently in the hospital as a result of the accident.
It has been recorded that more than 400 people have been killed in fuel tanker related fires in the past few years.
