USA – Lightning Strike Ignites Fuel Tanks
Several crude tanks caught fire on Saturday after a lightning bolt struck a field near Houston.
According to Click2Houston, the blaze started around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday when a lightning bolt struck a grassy field in Fort Bend County.
Four fiberglass crude tanks and other pieces of oil field equipment caught fire during the incident, according to the Houston Chronicle.
No injuries or spills were reported.
Further details about the incident have not been disclosed.
Emergency crews brought the fire under control after several hours and roads that had been blocked near the site have been re-opened.
“When I first visualized the fire, I was on the Westpark Tollway and it looked like it might have been a plane crash. It was that much fire,” Community Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Fowler told the Houston Chronicle.
