Guatemala City — At least five people were killed and several more injured by a boiler explosion at a nickel mine processing plant in Guatemala.

The accident occurred in the northern province of Izabal at the ProNiCo plant, a subsidiary of the Switzerland-based Solway Investment Group.

National disaster office spokesman David de Leon said Sunday that the injured were being treated at local hospitals. There was no immediate information on their condition.

The company’s website describes the facility as “a large, world-class nickel mine and newly built power plant and metal processing facility.”
