USA – Authorities Investigating Fire At Nuclear Power Plant

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out at a nuclear power plant in Spring City.

Local news outlets report that crews responded to the fire at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Tuesday night and extinguished the blaze in about an hour.

Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman Jim Hopson says the fire did not affect any nuclear or generation equipment but it did damage a transformer. He says the damage automatically forced a reactor to shut down indefinitely.

No one was injured, but Hopson says crews are still assessing the damage. He says officials are currently evaluating the cause of the fire.
