A small fire which occurred on the Aasgard B platform offshore Norway on Sunday was quickly dealt with, a Statoil representative told Rigzone.

“The status of the incident is that a small fire in a pump was reported at 18.30 CET Sunday, but the situation was under control and clarified within a couple of minutes,” the Statoil spokesperson said.

“By 19.00, the situation was being normalized, meaning people were returning to work,” he added.

Over 100 people were onboard the platform when the fire broke out and mustered into lifeboat stations, according to Norwegian daily newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.

The Asgard field is located on the Halten Bank in the Norwegian Sea, around 124 miles off mid-Norway and 31 miles south of the Heidrun field. Asgard B is a semi-submersible gas and condensate processing platform, which came on stream on 1 October 2000.
