ANSUL Petroleum Capabilities
ANSUL® entered the fire protection market in 1939 with
the introduction of the first cartridge-operated, dry
chemical fire extinguisher. This single episode
revolutionized the methods for fighting fires in
flammable liquids and gases and launched the most
recognized brand name in the petroleum industry. ANSUL
effectively applied dry chemical technology to wheeled
extinguishers, large hand-hose line units, fixed
automatic suppression systems and several
hazard-specific systems.
In the 1960's, ANSUL helped develop the first
foam-compatible dry chemical and later introduced the
twin-agent concept combining the fast flame knockdown
capability of dry chemical with the securing power of
aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF).
In 1988, ANSUL developed and introduced ANSULITE® 3x3
Foam Concentrate, the first AR-AFFF capable of being
proportioned at 3% for BOTH hydrocarbon and
polar-solvent fuels. Prior to the introduction of
ANSULITE 3x3, a typical alcohol-resistant concentrate
required a 6% concentration for polar-solvent fuels and
3% concentration for hydrocarbons. This break-through
agent was further enhanced when ANSUL chemists developed
an exclusive LOW VISCOSITY formula. The end result was
ANSULITE 3x3 Low Viscosity AR-AFFF Concentrate and the
benefits were numerous…
-- Simple: one agent – one concentration - 3%
-- Low viscosity formula suitable for all types of
proportioning equipment
-- Superior firefighting performance and low
application rates
-- Reduced costs due to smaller tank sizes, pipe
diameters, pumps and motors
Today, companies that manufacture, store, dispense, process,
or transport flammable liquids depend on the full line
of ANSUL brand fire protection products for the
protection of drilling operations, offshore platforms,
pipelines, truck loading racks, storage tanks,
refineries, and related facilities.
Research & Development...
The ANSUL Fire Technology Center is one of the most
extensive fire research, testing, training facilities in
the world. No other fire protection brand is supported
by such extensive broad-based research and test
facilities with so many chemists and engineers devoting
100% of their time preparing for the fire protection and
safety needs of the future.
Training...
Since 1940, the ANSUL Fire School has trained thousands of
customers from around the world in the basics of
hands-on firefighting using portable and stationary fire
equipment and a variety of fire extinguishing agents.
The fire school is part of the ANSUL Fire Technogy
Center which also provides product training and
market-specific symposiums for end-users, authorities,
insurance companies, architects, engineers, and
regulatory agencies.
Distribution & Service...
Over 1000 strong, ANSUL distributors can choose from dozens
of intense product training programs where they are
instructed and tested in the design, installation, and
service of fire equipment. This makes for the most
extensive, most experienced global network of authorized
distributors who are supported by more than 50 field
sales offices and an experienced technical and customer
services staff.
Products...
ANSUL® is a premium brand of the Tyco Fire Suppression
Group. ANSUL special hazard fire protection products
are designed and manufactured to exacting standards and
tested under the scrutiny of international testing
laboratories and approval agencies.
Make sure you’re prepared for those critical first two
minutes of a fire. RED LINE® cartridge-operated
dry chemical extinguishers are the premium
firefighting units preferred by safety directors in high
fire-risk industries. Cartridge-operated means
increased reliability, on-the-spot recharge and ease of
service.
RED LINE® wheeled extinguishers
are designed to protect high fire-risk areas where the
potential for large fires exists. These heavy duty
units have greater extinguishing agent capacities than
portable extinguishers, yet are highly mobile and can be
fully operated by just one person. Available with dry
chemical, foam, carbon dioxide, and special dry powders.
Large dry chemical systems
combine the flexibility of a hand portable extinguisher
with the greater fire-killing power needed to combat
large flammable liquid and gas fires. Agent capacities
of 150 to 3000 pounds (68 – 1360 kg). Options: hose
reels, selector valves, skid-mounting, trailer mounting,
dry chemical type.
Twin-agent technology
combines fast flame knockdown of Purple-K dry chemical
with the fire securing capabilities of ANSULITE® AFFF
(aqueous film-forming foam). The twin-agent attack
provides the most effective extinguishing and securing
capability known for many flammable liquid fires. Dry
chemical capacities of 450 to 1300 pounds (204 – 590
kg). AFFF solution capacity of 50 to 200 gallons (189
-757 L). Twin hose and nozzles.
Combining maximum speed and mobility with high performance
fire suppression – MAGNUM® rapid intervention
vehicles feature the one-two punch of ANSUL
twin-agent technology to combat flammable liquid fires.
The Model 440 system contains 450 pounds (204 kg) of a
highly-visible Purple-K dry chemical and 150 gallons
(568 L) of ANSULITE® AFFF. The MAGNUM 480 model has
1,350 pounds (612 kg) of Purple-K and 300 gallons (1,136
L) of AFFF pre-mix solution.
ANSUL® large dry chemical “piped” systems
are designed for the protection of flammable liquid storage,
loading racks, offshore platforms, tanker decks, fueling
areas, and many other applications. These fixed nozzle
systems provide up to 3000 lb (1350 kg) of dry chemical
extinguishing agent. System options include reserve
system, selector valves, alarms, detection/control, and
special Class D fire systems.
ANSUL firefighting foam products
include a full line of quality foam concentrates
(Class A and B), agent storage tanks, proportioning
equipment, discharge devices, and detection/control
systems. The ANSUL brand is also one of a few to offer
medium and high-expansion foam concentrates, nozzles,
and generators.
AUTOPULSE® control panels
process detection signals from protected areas and
immediately perform key operations – sounding alarms,
shutting down equipment, and releasing the fire
suppression system. Accessories include detectors, pull
stations, horns, strobes, bells, and various equipment
control and shutdown accessories. Panel options provide
protection for a small single hazard or up to 10
separate locations.
